My wife and I very much enjoyed our stay at the Le Merdien Chiang Mai. Besides being in an excellent location and being maintained in a pristine condition, the staff at the hotel provided the kind of service I usually expect to receive at a St. Regis.
As a platinum member, the Le Meridien provided me with a personalized welcome in the club lounge. while enjoying a beverage of our choice as our room was in the final stages of being prepared.
The SPG welcome representative, Zoe, could not have been more gracious and helpful. She showed us on a map (as well as through the scenic picture window in the lounge) where different sites in the city were and she gave accurate prices of taxi/tut-tut fares to various attractions and to the airport. What we really appreciated about Zoe is that she did not limit her presentation to what was offered at the Le Meridien. It is rare to have a hotel representative recognize that people are coming to their city for reasons other than spending their time in the hotel restaurants and spa. While Zoe pointed out the offerings at the hotel, she did not oversell them, and we really appreciated that. In my view, the word that best describes Zoe is grace.
The recognition that the Le Merdien gave to me, as a platinum member, was outstanding. We were provided with a junior suite, even though we booked during a very busy time, Chinese New Year. We also were provided with lounge access, breakfast at either the main dining room or the lounge, and there were evening canapes offered at the lounge. While we did not partake of the evening offerings, it was very much appreciated that they were offered. We were also offered pressing of 3 items per day, 2 vouchers for free coffee drinks per day, and a welcome amenity of either a 1/2 neck and shoulder massage or a 1/2 hour foot massage, in lieu of 500 SPG points. My wife got the complimentary foot massage was again impressed at the skill of the therapist and the fact that there was no attempt to upsell her to a longer package or to buy products. The staff also efficiently assisted me in printing and scanning some documents that I needed to send back to the U.S.
The other staff at the Le Meridien were also outstanding. They were both professional and responsive to requests. The uniforms that the staff wore were polished and are reflective of a hotel that cares about maintaining high standards.
The breakfast buffet in the main restaurant had a variety of choices. We were a little disappointed that there were no dim sum type offerings provided, especially since we were there during Chinese New Year.
In short, our stay was wonderful. Congratulations to the management at the Le Meridien Chiang Mai for running such an outstanding operation. You could teach a master class in how to run a hotel that wants to provide its guests with a memorable experience and make them want to return again and again.
